Athelhampton: A Musical Portrait

Saturday 5 July 2025
Gardens open at 5.30, music from 7.00
Athelhampton House

Athelhampton HouseThis intimate event gives you the opportunity to explore this wonderful house and gardens, with music offering you a glimpse into times past.

Join us on a musical journey through the history of Athelhampton. You will be guided through some of the main rooms of the house, hearing pieces that may have formed part of domestic musical life. After an interval (which will include a complimentary glass of bubbly) we will gather in the Great Hall, one of the finest 15th century rooms in England, for the main concert. You will hear music from the earliest days of the house and encounter the fears of the recusant Catholic community in music by William Byrd. Famous guests to the house as varied as Thomas Hardy and Noel Coward provide further inspiration for the evening's entertainment.

Before the concert, bring a picnic to enjoy in the splendid gardens.  If wet, The Coach House space is available for picnicking – and the bar will be open.

Mobility: A small part of this performance (including the balcony seats) involves stairs. If you have mobility issues, please contact us to discuss how we can facilitate the fullest possible participation.
