Death has come for Mozart. Out of respect for his genius, the grim reaper gives him a little extra time to tie up loose ends. But Mozart can’t stop taking on new projects.
The creative whirl is conjured up through Mozart’s letters (with a few additions), and an increasingly impatient Death waiting to call time. Woven through the narrative we have extracts from Die Zauberflote, La Clemenza di Tito and, of course, the Requiem. This fresh take on Mozart’s much-storied last year has wit, pathos, and some of the greatest music ever written.
Singers who would like to take part will spend the afternoon with conductor David Gostick working on the Requiem, Ave Verum and choruses from the operas. Then, in the evening, we head to the Guildhall to join two actors and soloists from Celebrate Voice’s main productions in telling the story of Mozart’s Last Year.
