This concert celebrates the anniversaries of two great choral composers – 200 years since the birth of Bruckner, and 100 years since the death of Stanford. Although Stanford’s English church music is very familiar, his exuberant double choir Latin Magnificat, inspired by Bach’s motets, exceeds it all. Bruckner’s motets range from the intensity of Christus Factus Est to the serenity of Locus Iste. The concert ends with the ethereal harmonies and soaring melodies of Fauré’s justly celebrated Requiem.
