Welcome to our 2026-2027 season!
Once again, we’ve packed this year with music of every type you can imagine and are looking forward to continuing collaborations with the Sinfonietta Players, the Wessex Baroque Collective and the Portsmouth Choral Union.
After a raucous ‘Come&Sing’ Carmina Burana (expect a couple of surprises in addition to the delicious tea!), we return to the beautiful English country church at Shapwick for an autumnal musical soirée. A little Time Travel at our traditional Baroque Christmas in Blandford follows, including some stunning music from more recent years after the traditional Baroque fayre and, of course, ‘Autumn’ from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, played by Christina. And there is another change, this time to our traditional Noël! Noël! concerts, which feature a rip-roaring visit to Mr Fezziwig’s Christmas Party. We’re also delighted to return this year to Canford School for our Dickensian Noël! as well as continuing our Dorchester tradition at the Corn Exchange.
2027 opens with the closing concert of the Shaftesbury Festival of Baroque, where we shall be joined by the Wessex Baroque Collective for an afternoon visit to Venice, the birthplace of the Baroque. With such an early Easter this year, we are joyful rather than tearful in our post-Easter concert in the magnificent Milton Abbey and present a ‘new’ Oratorio by JS Bach. More bawdy fun in Portsmouth in June (Belshazzar’s Feast and Carmina Burana) will be followed by our closing concert of the season in Bournemouth, where we hope to make both Heaven and Earth move!
Finally, we have two further opportunities for you to join us this season; not for concerts, but for Services in two of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country:
Monday 3rd May 2027 (Bank Holiday) - Choral Evensong at Wells Cathedral, 5.15pm
Thursday 22nd-Sunday 25th July 2027 - We’ll be singing the Services in Ripon Cathedral during the Cathedral Choir’s Summer holiday
